Complete These Maintenance Tasks Around Your Trinity Area Home This Fall
After all the hard work your HVAC system puts in during the summer, it’s time to perform some fall home maintenance and gear up for the Trinity winter heating season. Performing simple preventative maintenance chores this fall will prevent many common problems down the line and keep the system running at a high efficiency. Start your maintenance with the following jobs.
Clear Vents for Airflow
When airflow is restricted, it can allow dirt and moisture to build up in the duct system or other parts of the HVAC system. This can lead to mold growth and poor indoor air quality, which will affect your respiratory health. To maintain airflow, keep all vents open, even in rooms you don’t spend much time in. Secondly, clean and vacuum regularly to remove any dust or debris that has accumulated.
Check Moist Areas for Mold
If mold starts growing, it’s hard to stop it. The best chance you have of stopping a mold infestation easily is to catch it early. In places that often have limited ventilation, like crawl spaces and the attic, moisture can accumulate and provide a breeding ground for mold. Inspect these places this fall and look for mold growth or obvious signs of water damage.
Eliminate Air Leaks
Air leaks can form around doors, windows, plumbing fixtures and more. They allow hot air out during the winter while allowing cold air to rush in. This is not only bad for comfort, but it puts extra stress on your HVAC system. Inspect your home, both inside and outside, for air leaks. Seal them using caulking or weatherstripping, depending on where the leak is located.
Clear Downspouts and Gutters
While not directly part of the HVAC system, gutters and downspouts are important for your home’s rooftop drainage. If they’re clogged with leaves and other debris, water can get stuck and then freeze during the winter. When water freezes, it expands, which can cause significant damage. Clean them out while it’s still fairly warm and easy to do.
