Groveton, TX Air Conditioning Repair & Service

History

Groveton’s origins were forged when the Trinity Lumber Company built a lumber mill in 1881 on the south side of tracks freshly laid by the Sabine Pass Land and Railway Company. A settlement was plotted on the north side of the tracks and named Grovetown because of a grove of black jack oak trees. Its rapid growth resulted in Groveton being named the county seat in 1882. When the Trinity mill closed on Dec. 31, 1930, the population experienced a rapid decline; its lowest population was 799 in 1952.

In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps began a reforestation program; the city also benefited from the construction undertaken through the Works Administration Program. In the 1980s, thanks to the reforestation program, Groveton once again became a timber town. Today, much like many small communities throughout the country, Groveton features an assortment of retail establishments and service industries such as restaurants, stores and insurance.
